In April 2018, she became a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as a Registered Psychotherapist. Becoming a clinical supervisor was the next step in her professional journey.
Svetlana’s main goal is to foster the professional growth of the supervisees. Her approach to supervision is both informative and practical, in order to provide supervisees with knowledge and to enhance their competency, confidence and ongoing development. She integrates various therapeutic approaches into her supervision practice, including but not limited to psychodynamic, solution-focused, art therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and humanistic approaches. This diverse range of methodologies allows to provide comprehensive and holistic supervision, addressing the unique needs and preferences of the supervisees and their clients. The supervision style that she favours the most could be described as a balanced combination of different models.
Svetlana predominantly relies on collaborative models to initiate and support supervisees growth, therapeutic thinking, and open, trustworthy relationships, at the same time, she recognizes the value of directive models in the early stages of supervision or for teaching specific techniques. Svetlana finds it very important to take into consideration the individual needs, strengths, and weaknesses of the prospective supervisees, to promoting a flexible and supportive supervision environment. Svetlana pays attention to understanding the ethics and legal aspects of supervision, focusing on and maintaining professional boundaries, managing dual relationships, proper record-keeping and ensuring that supervision does not involve indoctrination, bullying, or exploitation of vulnerability. She focuses not only on the progress of the supervisees in supervision but also on the therapeutic outcomes achieved with their clients. She believes in the dual benefits of clinical supervision: teaching practical skills and supporting the overall professional growth of the supervisees.
